IMPACT

Detrimental impact on an area of outstanding natural beauty

Outline planning permission has been granted for a massive 150+ house development for the field opposite Birdham Stores. This will have a huge impact on the villages of Birdham, Itchenor, Bracklesham, East Wittering, West Wittering and surrounding areas of the Manhood Peninsula.

Despite huge efforts by the local community and our professional team this development has been given the go ahead.  This is only the start. Please keep an eye on the CDC planning website and object to these large unsustainable developments to help protect the Manhood peninsula.

KEY ISSUES

Sewage

Southern Water has stated it doesn't have capacity at its Sidlesham site for any more houses. Pagham harbour is regularly used as a dumping ground for raw sewage.

Flood Risk

The site regularly floods, especially in the winter months. There is no real plan to protect the rest of Birdham village once this huge field is concreted over.

Traffic & Safety

Even on a good day, the road infrastructure is fragile with so many cars going to and from work and school. In summer - the roads become gridlocked. Imagine the impact of adding 300 - 800+ more cars.

Urbanisation

This site is right next to the AONB. This massive development will have a detrimental effect on the character and visual amenity of the area, increase noise and light pollution, not to mention the impact on wildlife.

Against Neighbourhood Plan

The village was consulted about housing needs and it has a plan. This enormous development is totally counter to the democratic wishes of the majority of Birdham village.

Against CDC Local Plan

Birdham's allocation of housing by Chichester District Council in the emerging local plan is ZERO - not 150 or 400.
